For it is the sea that holds our most sacred and terrifying fears, yet it also holds a glorious mysticism over us as a race, an attraction so strong that most of us flock to beaches, river banks, creeks, and lakes at every opportunity to stare out into the vast blueness and wonder: what's out there?"

Armand Rosamilia made it official on his website, so I can announce that Canifex Press will release my new novella THOROUGHBRED later this year.

What's this 23,000 word work about?

When the savage Kelt Rogan is hired to hunt a randy group of Taurons (half men, half bulls) assailing a community of women and the elderly, a brutal adventure of lust and violence begins. In this horrific tale, one is asked what a race will do to survive. But is the price to Rogan's soul too high in what is required by Our Lady of Various Sorrows, the village shaman?

A story of the hunt, personal breeding, and primal passion, THOROUGHBRED shows cruel similarities between man and monster and the borderline many tread.

"Shrewsbury may very well be the reincarnation of Robert E. Howard. His stuff hits hard and is satisfying as hell." —Brian Keene, Author of THE RISING, CITY OF THE DEAD and THE CONQUEROR WORMS.

My New short story "Jawbone of an Ass" is now online a the quality eZine FLASHING SWORDS. This is the first tale to appear that features pre-flood Keltos savage Rogan, son of Jarek. A much older Rogan appears in KING OF THE BASTARDS, the IN PROGRESS novel by Brian Keene and myself.

Just got a S&S story accepted for HARDBOILED CTHLUHU to be produced by ELDER SIGNS PRESS. Amongst all of the more noir tales, they wanted a REHish, bloody S&S tale with mythos tinges and that is what they got in DAY OF INIQUITY, the tale that tells how Keltos barbarian Rogan was born...in a rather unusual way....

Just sold a tale AZAR AND THE ELDER GODS to DARK LEGACY.

My vampire story BLOOD TO BURN just appeared in NEAR TO DARK.

My poem BLOODY GENESIS was also accepted for BARE BONE magazine.

Jesse Gordon's review of Godforsaken has been posted in the Reviews & Interviews section. Excerpted:

Over the past few years, Steven Shrewsbury has made quite a name for himself as a short story writer. With a resume of tales numbering in the hundreds, Shrewsbury's main claim to fame has been the insanely popular Dack Shannon series (though he has dabbled proficiently in several other areas as well). A noted Robert E. Howard fan, Shrewsbury's "barbarian" stories have long since been a staple in any good epic/high fantasy magazine—and now, at long last, he has blessed his readers with Godforsaken, his first full-length barbarian novel.

James Sneddon reads at the 2005 WHC

Wednesday night, our friend James Sneddon (author of The Tolltaker) passed away unexpectedly. He leaves behind a wife, Mary, and two wonderful daughters.

We've helped others in our community. I'm asking you to help out the Sneddon family, too. I won't sugarcoat it—James wrote full-time, and didn't have a 401K or life insurance. The funeral expenses alone are...well, financially, things are grim.

Please consider making a monetary donation to James' wife, Mary. No amount is too small, and believe me, it will be appreciated and valued more than you will ever know.

You can make checks and money orders payable to Mary Sneddon, and mail them to:

Brian Keene
PO Box 15
Shrewsbury, PA 17361

On behalf of the family, they truly appreciate your kindness and support.

—Brian Keene
